#redandback
In fall 2016, I began on a project with The Red & Black student newspaper at UGA to dig into their archives (dating back to 1893) to find the poignant, interesting and funny in the old pages and to share these tidbits of the past with our current audience. I prepared daily posts for nearly 2 years.
To find social media posts from this project, check out @redandblack on Twitter or Facebook and look for the hashtag #redandback

Who are the buildings at the University of Georgia named for? Is it appropriate to honor figures like Georgia’s former governor Wilson Lumpkin, who was instrumental in removing Cherokee Indians from their homeland? These are the types of questions I set out to answer in a research project for UGA’s Public History and Technology course. The resulting website (complete with an interactive map of buildings with concerning names) can be found here.

Through UGA’s Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities, I worked on an independent study of segregationist southern politicians’ obituaries. My goal was to determine whether coverage of these individuals has changed over time and whether we are more or less prone to talk about race with politicians who died more recently.
You can read the project blog here.
Weather or Not
As a final project for the UGA New Media Institute Rich Media Production course, I worked with fellow student Juweek Adolphe to develop a functioning, prototype weather app which strives to go beyond just sharing the temperature. By clicking on the different icons on our app, individuals can find out “weather or not” a certain clothing item or accessory is necessary or appropriate for the day.
This app utilizes the Open Weather API and includes information for any city. The items appear either red (don’t pack!) or green (pack it!) based on cloudiness, temperature and set descriptors such as “light rain.”
